Can Singapore be the first car-free city in the world?

Forget car-lite. Danish architect Jan Gehl believes that Singapore can and should become completely car-free. In an interview, the Centre for Livable Cities Visiting Fellow believes that cycling, walking and public transport is sufficient, without the need for any cars on the roads.

Singapore could be served by fantastic neighbourhoods where you walk and cycle short distances without getting too sweaty, with a very efficient public transportation system that links these neighbourhoods. You don’t need cars at all in Singapore, in my opinion

What would a car-free Singapore look like? This year’s Families for Life Celebrations saw a collaboration with May’s Car-Free Sunday, which gave families a chance to experience some parts of the Civic District car-less!
